I definitely didn’t sleep well last night. Having a newborn can take its toll and can mean late nights. That was my case. I went to sleep around 2am, was up again at 5am and of course my preschooler was up at the butt crack of dawn. It’s like kids know when you’re tired as hell and haven’t slept. That’s when they’re up rearing to start the day. Thank goodness for good coffee.

Maybe I should have turned the t.v. on for a while so I could rest? Lord knows I needed some extra pillow time, but here’s where I battle with that thought… Pediatricians, friends, parenting books, etc recommend like 1 hour of screen time per day. Do those people have 20 kids?! Will a few hours of t.v, computer, or tablets have such a lasting effect on my children? Will they developed vision or concentration problems as they grow? When I was growing up we didn’t have smart phones or tablets. We had t.v. and the start of video games (Sega Genesis was the shit)! I remember watching hours and hours of t.v. when I was younger and I think I turned out okay. Well, I guess that can be debatable…
I guess my point to all of this is, if you need a break, turn on some kid shows, let them play on the computer for a while, age appropriate of course. You need a break sometimes to rest and regroup. Because after all, if you don’t take care of yourself, how in the world can you care for anyone else? Especially the ones who need you the most. Yes, your kids do need daily physical activity, but everything in moderation and your kids will be fine!
