“Mom… I’m bored!” How many times have you heard your kids say this? Whether it’s a weekend or summer break, your kids need to stay busy.
My kids are typically up between 6:30 and 7:00am while they’re out of school. We start our days pretty early here! After the kids eat breakfast, they’re usually ready to jump on the t.v. Or computer. I think they wake up with amnesia each morning, because this is NOT our routine. If I allow them to go straight to technology, they’ll end up fighting or vegging out most of the day.
Learning first! After breakfast we learn, weekends I’m more lenient and we take a break. Since it’s summer time, we do worksheets and learning activities tailored to each child’s age during the week. I currently use https://www.education.com/. It is very user friendly and targets kindergarten through 5th grade. The sites allows you to print some worksheets for free, but I paid the $75 annual fee and all activities are unlimited. There are even computer games available for your kids to play.
Another good site is https://www.abcmouse.com/. This site is more geared toward younger kids, but it’s affordable and easy for kids to navigate.
Now, the big kids can read and are pretty self directed. Of course I help them when they have a question. The little one needs me to sit with him, which is no problem when everyone else is working. After worksheets are finished, the kids read for 20 minutes then they can have free time.
We try to get outside before it gets too hot, but some days it just doesn’t happen and we’re stuck inside until the evening. They can watch t.v, play computer games, play board games or help me clean! Ha, like they would actually clean voluntarily… Nope.
If an online learning site doesn’t work for you, Amazon, Wal-Mart and BJs have great learning book options. Keep your kid’s brains working and keep yourself sane with a little quiet when everyone’s home!
